Prashant Tamang, ‘Indian Idol’ to Act in Nepali Film ‘Gurkha Paltan’
In 2007, Prashant Tamang a former cop stole headlines across India when he won the popular “Indian Idol” reality TV competition, similar to American Idol. Two years later, Tamang is ready to make his creative resume even more interesting with his venture into acting. The 26-year-old will debut as an actor in the Nepali film “Gurkha Paltan” (The Gurkha Brigade).
Tamang will play the role of a boy who loses his father and is forced to join the British Army to help provide for his mother and sister. The script almost mirrors his life. Tamang’s father died when he was eight and at age eighteen, he joined the Police force to help take care of his mother and sister.
The Nepali film industry is called Kollywood/Kaliwood it enjoys success like Bollywood and has a following in mostly European and Asian countries.
